Above is a plan of my reliquary drawn using my iPad, ProCreate app. I've taken elements from my Catholic decoration mood board as well as sculptures of Kris Kuksi. The reliquary (surrounding the fingers) will be split into various pieces and sculpted by hand using clay. Each individual detail will be the original sculpted peice, and the other 3 will be identical casts made using alienate and plaster of Paris. For example the corner pieces all look identical, however only on of them will be the original. This technique will echo the point that I am trying to make about relics, I aim to play with the perceptions of the observer by making each peice of the puzzle flawlessly identical; just as the 4 fingers of St Thomas are. Which one is real? Which are fabricated?
