Making a simple Zoetrope
STEP 1:
Work out how large the zoetrope base should be by choosing a radius and using a compass to draw from the centre around it. I drew the radius at 5.33cm to give me a small circular base.
STEP 2:
Work out the circumference of the circle using the equation 2 x 3.14 x 5.33= 33.5cm. This value will be the length of my next part of the zoetrope. Measuring 33.5cm and a height of 10cm, make a long strip. This strip will wrap around the circle perfectly and attach with a series of tabs. I then had to divide the strip into 10 (these would each contain a frame of film). Inside these 10 sections I had to draw slits in exactly the same place and same size (0.3cm x 3.3cm, 1.7cm/halfway between each segment). These slits will let light flash periodically onto the images/frames of animation.
STEP 3:
Next I simply made a handle for the zoetrope allowing it to spin. Below is the web for the handle.
STEP 4:
Using double sided tape, stick the strip together into a cylinder.
STEP 5:
Glue the cylinder onto the circular base.
STEP 6:
Cut out the handle web and glue to the base.
FINISHED ZOETROPE: (JUST NEED TO ADD 10 FRAMES OF ANIMATION)
