Marc Quinn
Marc Quinn's Evolution explores human development in its various stages of gestation and how 'matter comes alive' in the materialistic world. They appear to be fossilized and excavated as if this is an old, died-out process- however this is the factual and is presumably an indefinite way in which to produce a child. Perhaps this piece is a comment on the advancements of technology and how maybe one day a female host won't be needed for a child to be created? After all, we can already inseminate an egg with sperm outside of the womb (IVF) so perhaps the next step is external gestation?
The piece also references Evolution as clearly stated in the title. In Catholicism, and in relation to my project, this may be quite a controversial topic. Maybe Quin in playing with the fact that Catholics reject the idea of Evolution so it creating 'artefacts' resembling the evolution of a scientifically proven process. I like this idea of creating artifacts/fossils as you could make anything into a fossil and completely change its context. My project could perhaps move in the direction of tounge-and-cheek e.g. I could choose an object to 'fossilize', an object of importance to modern civilisation etc.
