Adding animation to simple zoetrope
To create 10 slightly differing frames of animation, I edited my image using photoshop. The first was done by copying the finger on the far left, placing this on a new layer, then I gradually enlarged the finger and made it spin to the side; all the while saving the images until I had 10. These were then all made the same size (3cm x 3cm) so that they would fit as a strip inside my zoetrope. The plan was the spin the zoetrope and see the finger getting bigger and spinning. As you will see from the video below, this did not work effectively.
I think I started off a little bit too ambitious with the complex design. From my simple zoetrope research, it seemed that the frames of animation were done so with a white background and black outline. Perhaps because my images are of a dark background and complex pattern, the eye could not focus on the part that was supposed to move. This first text was therefore unsuccessful. I will try to make the next strip far more simple to see if movement/animation is achieved.
