Dead Dad is a shocking yet beautiful piece of sculpture. The details are faultless, however the scale just dehumanises the whole piece. The figure is half the size of a human. This scale really emanates a sense of pathos; you feel so sorry for the figure that you want to cradle it in your arms. In my piece I'd like to play with scale, not necessarily to make the saints appear 'cuter', but to take away some of their authority, in accordance with the decline in relivance of religion in modern society. The playful nature of small scale will add a less serious tone to the work
The small scale also reminds me of my Donald Trump research where I found that he has small-man-syndrome. Trump is self conscious of the size of his hands due to comments made by reporters. It would be quite humorous if I were to create a relic for Donald trump downsizing his hands to a ridiculously tiny scale.
